"Basildon Maternity Unit"

About: Basildon University Hospital / General surgery Basildon University Hospital / Maternity Basildon University Hospital / Paediatrics

(as the patient),

How on earth can people slate this hospital... start to finish with my pregnancy and even after care for my baby has been AMAZING!

My waters broke at 24 weeks, i was admitted to Cedar Ward for monitoring and sent home after 2 days, a plan was made for me to visit MAC twice a week for bloods and monitoring of the baby - here i recieved the most amazing care, every midwife cared, I continued this care right up until 35 weeks when i was to be induced.

I was induced in the Delivery Suite which took in total 3 days - in these 3 days i had a midwife check me at least every hour despite me not being in labour, the staff put all my concerns and worries at ease - i actually cant even put into words how good my actual midwifes were when i was actual labour.

Unfortunately i had some complications during labour where my babies heart rate dropped dramatically - during this time the midwifes were calm and reassuring.

My gorgeous baby girl was born needing some help breathing, paeds were called and arrived in seconds, my baby was rushed to neonatal intensive care where she stayed for a week. The after care even in the delivery suite was amazing, they ensured i was placed in a room on Cedar ward to avoid any more upset as my baby was not with me.

The Neonatal team did an amazing job, called me every night to tell me how the baby was doing so i could sleep and put my mind at ease. Its people like these who deserve medals, saving sick babies lifes every day!

Since being discharged the baby has had a few problems (now resolved) to which we have been under the Penguin and Puffin Ward (childrens) and again they have been FANTASTIC.

How on earth do people fault this hospital i will never know, i have never come across a member of staff who, 1. does not know their job properly or 2. did not provide outstanding care.
