"Outstanding care by a world class team in..."

What I liked

I received world class treatment by an exceptionally committed, gifted and skillful team. I was admitted with a complicated acute spinal problem as an emergency on New Years Eve and underwent surgery first thing on New Years Day with an outstanding result. My recovery was remarkable and from being unable to move without excruciating pain and impaired function in my leg I was well enough to walk out of the hospital unaided 12 hours after my operation. I have been pain free and mobile since. The orthopaedic spinal surgeon who did my operation is an absolute star and the Sister and her staff were wonderful. I could not have experienced better care anywhere else in the world.

What could be improved

Nothing could have been better. I was even provided with a delicious kosher meal to meet my dietary requirements.

Anything else?

I am a consultant surgeon and the medical director of City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust but my comments are provided as a frightened and vulnerable patient who chose to put his complete trust in the hands of his own hospital and in his orthopaedic colleagues and team. We do hear a lot of criticism about the care the NHS gives to its patents but my experience is that we provide exceptional care almost all of the time.
