"Ophthalmology appointments cancelled"

As a diabetic I have been instructed by a previous ophthalmologist to have my eyes checked every 3 months as they are in danger of getting worse, but caught early, further complications can be prevented.

My last appointment at University Hospital Wales was in November 2010. Since then every 3 month appointment has been cancelled. I have been sent a letter a few weeks before the appointment was due to tell me that I will have to wait a further 3 months until the next available appointment but without any explanation.

I went to my last booked appointment in November 2011 and was told that it had been cancelled again and rescheduled for February 2012. This means that I will not have seen an eye specialist for 1 year and 3 months, if indeed this appointment is kept. In that time the complications with my eyes could have worsened, but I don't know.

I feel let down, completely overlooked and in danger of becoming ill due to this poor service.
