What I liked
At the beginning of December 2011, I was due to undergo an operation for the complete replacement of my left hip. Having turned 63 years of age, I have been lucky enough to avoid any kind of hospitalisation since I was five years old and in these times of forced austerity, when the pressures on the NHS have never been greater, I wondered just how such circumstances would impact on my treatment.
I'm pleased to say that from my point of my admission onto Ward 7, to my discharge three days later, the treatment I received was never less than outstanding. Right from the start, I was put at ease and felt in safe hands. I was talked through each stage of my operation and the experience and expertise of all staff I came into contact with was clearly evident. From the consultants, anaesthetists, physiotherapy team and front line nursing staff, to the ladies who served up our excellent meals, the level of care and commitment to patient care was faultless. In particular, the nurses on Ward 7, although ever busy, were unswervingly attentive, helpful and always cheerful.
I am now recovering well and at a time when the NHS seems to receive more than its fair share of criticism, it seems only right that these good folk should be highly commended for the work they are doing. The Wansbeck is fortunate indeed in having so many dedicated, professional and friendly members of staff. My thanks and admiration to all concerned.
What could be improved
Everything was fine.
