"emotionly draining and very stressful."

About: St Albans City Hospital

What I liked

the nursing staff were amazing and very supportive. I was impressed at the cleanliness.

What could be improved

communication on details of my surgery. nursing staff were not kept up to speed by the surgeon. surgical person was blunt and i felt like a number not a patient. i spent all-day 10am-10pm waiting for my operation, and was only told at 8:20pm i was cancelled for the 2nd time. i was disgusted that i was left in my hospital gown and a glucose drip all day and not kept informed.

Anything else?

big thank you to the nursing staff on del la mare ward for their support.

First of all, many thanks for your kind words on the De La Mare ward team. We will ensure your feedback is passed onto their nursing staff.

However, we’re very sorry that your experience of our Orthopaedics services at St Albans was not of the high standard you should expect from us. The importance of a wholly positive patient experience is one of the Trust’s key objectives, and the issue of communication between staff and patients is something we’re working hard to improve.

We know that our senior clinical colleagues will want to investigate this thoroughly on your behalf, if only to prevent something like this from happening again. If you wouldn’t mind sending us an email to info@whht.nhs.uk, it will be taken from there and we will be in touch.
