"My husband ended up with pulmonary embolism"

About: North Staffordshire PCT

(as a relative),

My husband had an operation to repair a torn achiles tendon, he recieved injections for 2 weeks to stop DVT but 2 weeks after that he was suffering swelling above the site of the operation and pain going up to his groin, the leg was so painful he could not touch it.

His gp checked the site of the operation and prescribed pain killers saying that he could have pulled or damaged the muscle. we returned to see a different gp a few days later as my husband was struggling to breathe and had severe pain in his back, he was admitted to hospital blood clots on his lung.

The doctors in the hospital have said that this could have been stopped in his leg if he had been admitted after his first visit to the gp.
