"Miscarriage with my first pregnancy"

I started bleeding at 9 weeks and was terrified so went to A&E at Newcastle RVI, this was about 4pm on a Monday in July. I went with my mum, as my husband who is a GP couldn't get out if work.

When we arrived at the RVI we found the A&E badly signposted and difficult to find. Eventually at A&E it seemed relatively quiet and we went to the reception desk, where the triage nurse asked me to describe what was wrong. At the same time three workmen arrived and stood right next to me at the counter waiting to be told where to report to I think. This meant that I had to describe bleeding and clots etc, whilst very upset, with absolutely no privacy.

I realise that miscarriage is common but for me it was a devestating experience and I felt the nurse was unsympathetic and made no attempt to empathise or reassure me. When she took me in to get my blood pressure checked, she said nothing to me and instead talked over my head to a colleague about her holiday.

After this I waited for approx 2 hours in the waiting room before my husband arrived and we were called in. After that a doctor was fine and tried to help in an ineffectual way but he was much better than the nurse. I felt overall that the experience was a horrible one. When I finally miscarried fully the following night, my pain was extreme and my husband was very concerned and wanted to take me in to A&E again.
