"Second referal not sent by my GP"

About: Cornwall and Isles of Scilly PCT

(as the patient),

My GP seems to have failed to complete two referals in the last few months. The first was ment to be for a consoltation with a gastroentruologist. The second was ment to be for an ultra sound.

In the first instance, i was given a form to sign and give to reception for my referal to be organized by my local referal management service, and was told it may take up to two weeks to receive a letter with an appointment.

The following weekend, i was refered to a colorectal surgeon via A&E, but was assured that i should keep the first referal also, as they were two seperate departments with different specialities.

2 months went by. The day i saw the colorectal surgeon, i popped into my local gp surgery to enquire about the initial referal. The secretaries were puzzled as they could see the paper work i filled out filed on their screen but didnt know why it hadnt been done. They appologised and got my gp to ring me.

My GP told me that he did not go through with the referal due to the hospital treatment i needed (though im sure the referal should have been sent off well before i presented at a&e.)

i put this down to a mix up. My GP now won't refer me because my upper gastro symptoms have subsided for now (they have been flairing up regularly for 3 years now.)

2 weeks ago, after giving many clean urine samples and complaints of urinary incontinance, my gp said would refer me for an ultra sound, and possibly a gynochologist later on. 1 week went by, so i asked the receptionists for an update. they informed me that it should have been done via the choose and book service and i would get a letter or call from them by the following week at the latest.

I waited but rang the choose and book service myself. They said that i should have left the previous gp appointment with a reference number and password for me to book the appointment myself.

I rang the surgery receptionists. They cannot see any referal for an ultra sound at all. My gp assured me today that there is a long waiting list for ultrasounds right now and i might have to wait another month or two for a letter. They were not concerned about a further infection i had developed, but instead sent me off with a leaflet about an activity group.

When i returned home, i rang the referal management service, to see if they have received a referal at all. They hadnt, neither had the choose and book service.

Two referals have been messed up now, and as a consiquence i have had two surgeries for an abcess and now a UTI. I appreciate that i do not have any life threatening conditions, but i am incredibly angry that my gp seems to be making only small mentions of referals in my notes, but not actually going through with them.

I am confused, the receptionists are confused, and i feel like my GP is not taking me serioiusly. I do have problems with depression, but i am currently mentally sound. I feel patronised and told to "get out in the fresh air more," even after there is physical proof that there are physical problems.
