"High praise for the doctors and nursing staff from..."

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

What I liked

I was on ward B26 for surgery, I have to say the nursing staff on this ward are exceptional, they all worked as a team and made me feel very comfortable. Nothing seemed to be to much bother - well done to all of you.

The doctors were all extremely courteous and friendly; I was kept informed of what was going to happen from start to finish.

I would also like to praise the theatre staff, I waited for a short time to go into theatre and the nurses were lovely and friendly, we had a 'good chat' while I was waiting. After the op in the recovery room the nurse was also exceptional so pleasant and friendly

What could be improved

The cleaning staff seem to have a problem working with each other; they let the patients know in no uncertain terms. They spent a lot of time in the bay I was in and were gossiping gossiping gossiping. The day after my op I really did not want to hear all about the 'Ann Summers' party that was going to happen, but was unable to block it out. The language from two of the staff leaves a lot to be desired, another thing I really didn't want to hear. These people need to be advised that they should just do the job they are paid to do!

Anything else?

The patient shower was very difficult to turn off and having recently broke my arm I found it impossible to do, I think perhaps more general maintenance on the ward is needed.

However all in all I would recommend this ward.
