"The staff looked after me extremely well and made..."

About: Charing Cross Hospital

What I liked

I went into A&E on my own and was told I would have to have an emergency operation that day which I was very frightened about. Every single member of staff who was involved in looking after me explained everything clearly so that it was less daunting and were all extremely kind and cheerful. They took extremely good care of me in the A&E department, in surgery and in the recovery ward afterwards and the level of care was much much higher than what people I know have experienced in other hospitals. I was very impressed and felt very well looked after and it reassured me a great deal in what was otherwise quite a scary experience.

What could be improved

I had to wait for a while on a bed in A&E before going up to surgery and then had to wait for a while after surgery before being taken to the ward because of a shortage of beds on the ward. I was then discharged earlier than I was supposed to have been so that they could give the bed to someone else. This is not the fault of any of the staff or the hospital at all I don't think, but a general NHS-wide problem which needs to be addressed.
