I was once sent by ambulance from Dr's surgery to Musgrove as my heart was in Atrial fibrillation. After waiting 2-3 hours with the paramedic accompanying me also waiting, I was admitted to a bed in the assessment ward. It was a mixed ward and very busy. A doctor examined me but I had to wait again. It was now early evening having arrived there about 11.00am.
A very 'brusque' nurse eventually gave me a pack of prescription tablets and told me I was free to go. Having gone straight from a Dr's appointment I had no money or suitable clothing to go out and wait for a bus to Wellington. I asked for a hospital car but was told it was only for people on benefits. I said I had no means of getting home and was in my late 60's. She went away and about one hour later someone told me there was a taxi waiting for me outside.
