"My daughter was safely delivered and my wife is..."

About: Newham General Hospital

What I liked

I noticed that the midwives were quite mean and demanding, but I realised it was for my wife's benefit. The pain from her contractions made her nearly non-responsive, so a firm command got her moving. Midwives then shower get with positive remarks and encouragement, and that really helped. Got the impression midwives at Newham Gerrnal want to really help you, but some third party is always in the way.

What could be improved

More staffing. There were many midwives running around trying to treat 10 pregnant women at the same time so waiting times take forever. Not their fault at all. Also when my wife wanted an epidural, midwife had to tell us that there was only 1 anaestheologist and they were in theatre. Another thing was that there were not enough beds, my wife became 4 cm dilated which is the requirement but midwives could not put my wife into a bed because there weren't any available. Honestly, how can midwives work if the resources are not available?

Anything else?

Midwives may be a little matron like, but it's all for the greater good. Stop cutting Funding for the nhs!
