"Terrible"

About: Airedale General Hospital

What could be improved

After waiting 3and a half hours with my teenage son who had fainted at 6.30pm and cut the back of his head open, we admitted defeat and our patience left us and we returned home to get some parecetamol and get a first aid kit from the local 24 hr garage.

The gash definitely would have benefited from being glued. I understand the staff are busy and there were alot of ambulance arrivals but it would of took a nurse 10 minutes to put some glue in his head.

What also determined why we left was that a woman was brought in by ambulance and placed on a chair at the front of a&e and it was obvious she was having some sort of mental breakdown, her family were terribly distressed and i could no longer sit there and feel the despair of what has happened to the NHS and the world.

Everything is about paperwork and procedure!! let doctors and nurses do there jobs not being consumed with the paperwork would free up alot of their time.

Anything else?

I hope I never have to visit there again.

We are so sorry that this patient and his parent had such an unsatisfactory experience when they visited the A&E department recently. Without specific detail of the exact time this occurred it is not possible to provide an explanation of the likely causes for the delay, but we are aware that at times of peak activity, patients do experience waits longer than we would like. There are plans ongoing to make changes to the physical environment of the A&E department, which will separate out the areas for treating adults and younger people, but we appreciate this was not a good experience on this occasion.
