(as the patient),

I was travelling on business in SE England when I developed severe toothache and a dental abscess.

Unable to get anywhere with NHS Direct, or find a local dentist that would deal with me on the NHS as an emergency, I called my own dentist at home in Edinburgh.

After our conversation he called back late in the evening to check how I was, made time to see me immediately and start treatment when I changed my travel plans and returned home and stayed late in the evening the following day to continue root-canal treatment.

A faultless service for which NHS Scotland should be proud.
