"Critical care excellent customer care poor, food..."

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

What I liked

I had a heart attack in the early hours of Saturday morning apart from the paramedics not knowing how to get into the hospital and to the theatre my treatment was first class. I was moved to CCU and can not fault the care of any of the staff in there. CCU is not a single sex ward however this was not a primary concern.

What could be improved

After a couple of days in CCU and feeling much better the nurse came and told me I was being moved and had 15 minutes to gather my belongings! Half an hour later a porter came and took me to ward 4 where they were not prepared at all for my arrival. My belongings were thrown to one side while they cleaned and changed my bed. I felt so unwelcome especially as it was half way through visiting time and the ward was full of visitors especially 1 bed who had 8 visitors although the maximum is supposed to be 2! After I complained and was clearly upset the nursing staff seemed to think I was just being awkward. I spent a day in ward 4 and was left to myself for most of the time. I did feel better when the nurse changed shifts and a new nurse who did not know about the previous evening came on duty, he was very caring and professional.

I also find it strange that on a heart ward the food is so poor, it is impossible to select your 5 a day from the menu. On a positive note I lost 8lb in 4 days on the MRI Diet!

Anything else?

The critical care I recieved was second to none however as I started to recover I felt left and abandonned.
