"not the best stay in hospital"

About: John Radcliffe Hospital

What I liked

Being discharged!!!!

What could be improved

The night staff's attitude!!

Anything else?

I was taken to SAU as an emergency,on my arrival to the unit I was feeling scared/emotional and worried..I was taken into a small room, where the 2 nurses and a 2 doctors started trying to get blood out of me,do and ECG and insert a catheter,I felt like a lump of meat! Other nurse's and doctors were comming in the room for things, nothing to do with me. I asked the nurses if it was necessary to have a catheter, they said it was..no explanation given as to why. I was then told to put on a hospital gown, despite already being in nightwear. Being a large lady, the gown didn't fit, I was feeling very vulnerable and exposed.

I was taken to a sideroom and left, a few hours later I was given blood and my BP was monitored,I had false nails and nail polish on. the machine wouldn't register my pulse, the nurse said it was my nails, eventually turned out to be the reader! the nurse said'next time you come in to hospital don't have your nails done' I assurred her that if I was planning another unplanned emergency I would do my best!

The next morning after much persuasion the catheter was removed and I was able to put on my own nightie.

Apart from the night nurses on the ward, itwas ok..the day staff were very busy and didn't have time to even smile at you ,the only friendly one was my assigned nurse.

I hope I never have to go back into SAU again!
