What could be improved

This situation would have been improved if i had been seen by a Triage Nurse shortly after reporting to A&E Reception.

Anything else?

I attended the A&E department on Thursday evening at 2200 hrs after receiving a blow to the face at a martial arts class which had resulted in a nasty laceration to my upper lip. I was initially seen at reception and after giving brief details of the accident was asked to take a seat in the waiting area where i waited for the next two and half hours before being asked through to a treatment area. In here, a student nurse took my blood presseure and i was left to wait again for another one hour before being seen at 0200 hrs by a Doctor who informed me that i needed to go to Stoke hospital to have the laceration sutured.

My concern here is that following a blow to the head, it took several hours for me to be assessed by any nursing or medical personnel! In short it appears i spent four hours at Stafford Hospital feeling very uncomfortable with an increasing headache and visible injury, had my blood pressure taken with no assurance that observation was ok and was then told i was in the wrong hospital after all.

Overall impression is of lack of safety, risk to patients and poor quality of care.

In contrast Stoke A&E was efficient and patient focused which resulted in an excellent service.
