What I liked

Whilst i found the recovery ward 30 was superb bearing in mind they had a complete lack of staff and a very heavy workload my experience of the actual delivery ward was less than satisfactory. The midwife looking after my wife was trying to do her best, but it just appeared that my wife was treated as though she knew nothing. The ward phone was not answered when i tried to ring up after my wife made a screaming call in pain, but when i got to the ward anyway 5 members of staff were just sitting around and on the nurses station; they looked at me crossly that i had turned up out of hours and i soon had to leave only to come back 15 - 30 minutes later as the pain my wife was in and the amount of bleeding produced before i left were actually her waters breaking ( which i said it was but not believed before leaving) and her being in advanced stages of labour. We shall be using the Royal next time.

What could be improved

Not sitting on the nurses station in a big group doing nothing.

Not staring at you with utter hatred when you appear on the ward, and hearing them talking amongst themselves about how annoyed they are about people turning on speck without phoning.

Perhaps asking or trying to explain what or how your wife was before you went into to see her.

Acknowledging patients pain and trying to look for a reason behind it

Thank you for taking the time to share you thoughts. I will pass your comments onto the maternity service at the General.

A good quality patient experience is important to us, so its imperitive that our staff understand that their actions can have a negative effect on that experience.
