"The care me and my baby received was fantastic."

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

What I liked

I was cared for very well whist in labour, And looked after brilliantly when it became aparent my daughter was poorly. Everything was explained to me and i was kept informed on what was happening with my daughter at all times when she was taken to special care.

The midwifes listened to my concerns about my daughter before we relised she was ill and got doctors in to check her over straight away. The care to me and my daughter was fantastic and i was discharged quickly so i could go be with my baby at LGI.

Anything else?

I delivered my daughter on the midwife led unit, i was treated very well and the delivery was very straight forward. shortly after birth we relised the baby was struggling to breathe at first we were told it was probably just mucus, when after an hour it hadn't got any better i raised my concerns to the midwife and she called for a pedeatrition they arrived within miniutes and took my daughter away to check her over.

After about a hour a doctor came into the room and explained that my daughter had a condition called Tracheo-oesophageal fistula (tofs) basically her oesophagus was blocked and had a gap in it. It is quite a rare condition so it was explained that my daughter would be transferred to LGI for surgery asap.

I was taken to see my daughter before she was transfered and i was exceptionally impressed with how good the staff were dealing with her were.

She was transfered to LGI when she was about 6 hours old and had surgery at 12 hours old and is now doing fantastic.

All the staff at Dewsbury especially the 2 midwifes who looked after me were amazing.
