"Gynacology services both outpatients and at the..."

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

What could be improved

The consultant I saw in gynaecology needs to improve their attitude when speaking to patients and provide time for questions to be asked. My appointment on the !st November was over an hour late with no explanation and I was only given 4 minutes consultation time. The doctor has ignored prevous diagnosis which was supported by a laproscopy. I haven' been given time to ask why my treatment hasn't worked and to discuss the affect it is having on my day to day life.

The poor service originated from the time I was first seen by the gynaecology department where I again was given no time to speak, ask questions and explain my symptoms. The poor service continued in the gynaecology day unit where I had to ask 4 times for pain relief whilst the nurses stood there laughing and chatting. I was also told by one of the healthcare assistants that I was behaving badly because I was crying with the pain. I received bo food except one biscuit and a cup of tea as they had 'run out of sandwiches'. This meant I had had no food for well over 12 hours.

I am so dissasfied with the service that it is now likely I am going to ask my GP to be referred to a gynacologist at a different hospital outside of the trust. It isn't just maternity where the poor treatment is it is womens services in general. I also need to see another specialist but am hoping it won't be at Queens.

I would like to add that the ENT and Dermatology departments have always been well run at Olchurch hospital and Harold Wood Hospital. I have spent many year of treatment with them as a child and as an adult and would be happy to be referred there again. Maybe gynaecology and womens services could take a leaf out of their book. More importantly it suggests that the problems in womens services originated at these hospitals and have now transferred to Queens hospital.
