"Excellent care during a difficult & traumatic time"

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

What I liked

I was 11 weeks pregnant and started bleeding on Saturday 29th of October - having had 9 miscarriages already I knew what was happening. This time however I was bleeding a lot more and for a lot longer then previous and the pain was indescribable (and I've had kidney stones!!). My partner called the Gynae ward about 4.30am Monday morning and they got me straight in via an ambulance. I was seen straight away by a lovely Dr and Midwife/Nurse ( I was on a lot of gas and air so not sure which!). The staff were very understanding and kind, I was given stronger pain relief right away and examined. It turned out I needed two examinations and finally an ERPC to stop the bleeding. Everybody was very attentive, considerate and professional and I was so touched by their care I've sent them a Thank You card. This was such an improvement on the last time I had to go to hospital during a miscarriage. The last time the staff sister was rude and condescending & accused me of faking how much pain I was in to get drugs! (Turned out I had tissue caught in my cervix). Its times like this that really make me see the true value of the NHS :)

What could be improved

A blood test to see if I needed a transfusion after losing a litre of blood was mislabelled & went missing so I never found out if I needed a transfusion or not!
