"I was delighted with the treatment I received at..."

About: Central Middlesex Hospital

What I liked

I was treated with respect and not talked down to in any way when procedures and questions were asked.

The procedures were explained including the fact they may not be able to do keyhole surgery if any unforeseen difficulties occurred.

I was cared for very well post-operatively and a nurse appeared very quickly when I felt unwell and gave me assistance, advice and medication. I was helped to the toilet when I requested it and it was not assumed that, because of my age, I was not able to manage it.

The (double) operation has been highly successful and beautifully performed. Well Done the team!!! I have no pain, no indigestion, sleeping better than for years and a noticeable improvement in voice and asthma. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

What could be improved

Pre-operatively, the nurse that took some bloods was inexperienced and made quite a mess of my arms. I do have good veins though they are small. The anesthetist eventually did them with no difficulty. That was a bit distressing when I was just about to have surgery.

Knowledge of Coeliac disease and Gluten-free diets could be improved. It is always a source of anxiety for Coeliacs going into hospital because giving the wrong food can cause real

problems and subsequently delay recovery, particularly when surgery is abdominal. As it happened I wasn't fed anything, but I wasn't to know that on admission.

Anything else?

The Car parking was a dream compared to many hospitals.

The Cafeteria has very little in the way of Gluten-free food. I couldn't even get a sandwich made up using my own bread. A few cookies, a piece of cake is not much to ask.!!!

I used my option to Choose and Book to come to this hospital and it was well worth the two hour journey each way to have the priviledge of such excellent treatment.
