"I was frightened."

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

What I liked

I visited a patient on the medical assessment unit. The nursing care was good and so was the anxilliary care.

The cleaning standards were extremely poor.

The centre of the wards looked alright but under and beside the beds was a disgrace, as was the area around the lockers. There was plenty of dust and sticky surfaces evident

This must be a paradise for bugs that cause infection. No wonder the person I visited became more ill by being in hospital.

What could be improved

Please ensure that cleaning personnel understand what is meant by cleaning and are taught how to perform their duties efficiently and effectively.

We are sorry to hear about your experience. Infection control is something that Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust takes very seriously. We have worked incredibly hard to reduce the rate of infection within our hospitals. If you would like to discuss this with us, feel free to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk
