"Why not have half days off?"

About: Birley Health Centre

(as the patient),

Recently I had a five day wait to see the GP I am registered with. I was told this was because he no longer held surgeries Monday to Friday inclusive. My visit was not urgent and I did receive the information I needed. There are morning and afternoon surgeries every day except Tuesday when it's morning only. My question is why can doctors not have half days away from surgeries instead of full days? One half day a week with a GP absent would reduce waiting times for an appointment.

Thank you for you qusetion. The doctors although not doing actual surgeries each day are still working. Some days they are at care homes where we have lots of patients, some doctors are involved in the gp consortium and they also need time to do the vast amount of paperwork which comes from each consultation they do. It would be lovely to have them in surgery each day but unfortunately this is not an option for them.

We are starting a virtual patient group where we will occasionally email you for your views, if you would like to be part of this please email me susanbreeze@nhs.net
