What I liked
I visited the Minor Injuries unit at Heatherwood hospital today and was very pleasantly surprised by the whole experience.
The Unit was busy but I was treated by all members of staff in a most efficient and courteous manner. I arrived shortly after mid-day and left approximately one hour later having been seen by the Nurse on duty, had my elbow x-rayed, was seen by the nurse again and given the result of the x-ray. I was then given an appointment to see an Orthopaedic Surgeon in 3 days time.
I understand that the Minor Injuries Unit is under threat of possible closure and find this hard to accept. I am a Senior Citizen, living in Wokingham, and if this Unit closes the alternative would be either the Royal Berks Hospital in Reading or Wexham Park Hospital. I have had experience of the Emergency Departments in both these hospitals, albeit not in recent years, but neither hospital compared favourably with my experience today at Heatherwood.
I trust the Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals Trust will dismiss all thoughts of closing the Minor Injuries Unit at Heatherwood.
