What I liked

Nothing. My experiance was truly horrifc.

What could be improved

I am truly shcoked at the lack of dignity i was treated with. I am horrified at the lack of experience that the most of the midwives seemed to show. Pretty much all of the mothers on the post natal ward were told to top up there baby's feed with formula. I am unsure why there was so little support for mums with breastfeeding. I did wonder if it was because the majority of midwives couldnt be bothered and wanted a quite night.

The ward was dangerously unclean. I observed blood on the floor that was noticed by staff but nothing done to clean it.

I have never been to a third world county but i expect Newham General comes close.

Anything else?

I think if Newham is to regenerate then this hospital needs to move with the times also. Either that or it needs demolition!

The Director of Nursing and Midwifery was disappointed to hear of this woman’s experience as it is not in line with our philosophy of supporting feeding method of choice nor maintaining a clean environment.

The matron/ team leader for the area would be very interested in meeting with this woman in order to find out more information and address the issues with the staff on duty over those shifts.

Newham University Hospital Trust (NUHT) maternity services is committed to improving services and addressing any problems that women experience and a senior midwife or supervisor of midwives is always available to hear any concerns about practise or patient experience whilst in hospital or after returning home.

If the woman would like to contact the HOM (Head of Midwifery) office via NUHT switchboard an appointment will be arranged.
