"Never ever again for me or my family. We are..."

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

What I liked

Staff worked hard but I sensed their dissatisfaction in the job. Most were overworked.

What could be improved

Complaint procedure. Empathy. Time Management. Less managers, more nursing staff.

Anything else?

I unfortunately went to A&E when I was misdiagnosed by a junior doctor and sent home with a life threatening illness. I returned to hospital 2 days later seriously ill at 10am in the morning. A doctor who had just come on shift at teatime realised I was in danger and reviewed my notes By 11pm I was fighting for my life and being transferred to another hospital. They thought I was a lost cause and gave me 12 hours to live. Fortunately they worked incredibly hard to revive me. After 2 weeks in intensive care I was discharged to ROH for "recuperation" During my 2 week stay I developed a high temperature of 41. They diagnosed me with Meningitis but despite this discharged me home. After collapsing at home, family took me back to the other hospital who found me to have septaecaemia and I was days away from death again! I have had numerous medical problems since and have recently had the misfortune of needing to go back to ROH for review. In apprehension i did not want a procedure they suggested due to past experience and despite writing a letter to the consultant he discharged me! I contacted complaints and met with the head consultant who looked very familiar. He incinuated it was me that had not given a correct story hence my serious illness. I have since found out he was actually involved in my care but neglected to tell me this. Previously, I have had other procedures which all have resulted in complications and a catalogue of errors. I feel that this hospital is incompetent and having had treatment at other hospitals I realise the difference. I rarely saw patients die at the other hospital in the 2 months I was there but saw 6 die on 1 ward in 2 weeks at ROH. I will travel or pay privately in future for my care
