What I liked

The treatment on the whole has been OK, not as much waiting around as I expected.

What could be improved

My problem is to do with the computer system that records every patients details and treatment etc. I am being treated for a urinary tract infection and subsequent high levels of PSA in my blood, which could indicate prostate cancer. I have had 4 blood tests, 3 lots of antibiotics, a urine flow test and a transrectal scan and biopsy. The latest procedure happened on Monday of this week. I also had an appointment today, Thursday, which I mistakenly assumed would be to give me the results of the biopsy (what else?). When I turned up, I was seen by yet another doctor, (a different doctor every time I go, but I've no problem with that because all my details are on the computer, right?) They told me the PSA was coming down but still too high and that I should have another blood test today (and wait in a massive queue to get it, as usual). I asked the doctor if they were aware I had had a biopsy 3 days ago, as I thought this would affect the blood test. AND THIS IS THE PROBLEM. There was no record of me having had a biopsy on my record! Why not? What if I hadn't mentioned it to them? What else might be missing from my record? Or other patient's records? Last time I was there, a man was being asked to drink lots of water to prepare for his flow rate test, and he had to tell them he had already had that, he had come to get his biopsy results. What is going wrong? Who isn't doing their jobs properly? Is the system deficient? I've worked with large computer databases and systems since 1974, and know when I see one in a mess. The NHS system is in a mess, believe me, but if not enough people complain and tell their stories, like me, NOTHING WILL BE DONE. I don't want apologies, I want a system that has no basic flaws.
