"No female doctor at my medical centre"

About: Nottinghamshire County Teaching PCT

(as the patient),

Myself and my mum are currently registered under Southwell Medical Centre. There are no female GPs at all, all male. I find this a real problem, especially as I have needed treatment for a feminine health concern.

Last time I went to see the GP, he didn't seem to have a good grasp on female anatomy and I would have much preferred to see a female. I have specific concerns about seeing a male doctor due to incidences in my past and so would really appreciate the option to see a female.

I have been to other GPs surgeries, which are no more than 5 miles from my house but I've been told that they cannot take me because I'm not in their catchment area.

I'm finding this very frustrating, it seems like having the option to see a female doctor as a female patient is a basic request and something that should be available. My mum hasn't seen her GP for years for this reason, which means her health could be in jeopardy.

I would really appreciate some advice on how to change my GP please.
