"Smart recovery is great"

About: Ashley House / Substance Misuse Service

(as a service user),

I am a service user at Ashley House and have been now for about a year and a half. I have been in various rehab groups including to ttp. Over the last few months there has been a few changes round Ashley which has included the introduction of smart recovery. I for one find very beneficial. For a start it doesn't focus along the lines of a spiritual path, which I in the past have struggled very much with, but smart recovery seems to give me various options which seem more realistic and more easier for me to get to grips with.

I also think that some of the addaction are very well trained with smart recovery and when the new tender comes into effect I hope it is addaction who gets it as I for one and many others feel very safe with them.

Thank you for your feedback,

We at ashley house are glad to hear that you are finding the changes beneficial, We have over the past few months experienced a lot of changes, As treatment providers we try to effectively manage the changes to ensure as little disturbance as possible to the treatment times and effectiveness. The recovery groups in Widnes and Runcorn have now been working in a smart recovery way for several months, we hope the very recent changes to the time table suit as many people as possible who access the treatments provided. We are always interested in any positive/negative feedback you or any other individuals accessing treatment have, this helps ensure that we supply the best treatment possible. The recent changes to the time table come after consultation with the groups. All the people in the groups asked for more time therefore we have moved the start time to 10am until 1pm in ashley house on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10am until 1pm Monday and Friday in runcorn. We have also recently started an addaction smart recovery meeting in Runcorn at 1pm on Wednesdays, added to the new Narcotics Anonymous meeting at 7pm on tuesday nights in ashley house, we hope to have as many recovery options as possible to ensure effective choice. if you require any details on how to access this meeting please contact a member of staff here at ashley house in person or by calling 0845 601 1500. we hope to provide continued treatment of an effective nature to all who access Ashley house

Thank you for your posting.

It is good to know that you are finding the SMART programme useful and that the staff that have been assisting you have been knowledgable about SMART.

We try to make sure by looking at everyones case on an individual basis that what is offered is suitable for that person and that they are also aware of what is on offer be it group work,SMART,substitute prescribing etc. It is also often a combination of a number of such interventions that helps in a persons recovery.

As you mention there will be a new service provider in place at Ashley House in the New Year which will be replacing all the existing organisations that are presently in the building and this will allow us to continue to provide the best treatment and recovery service possible for all those who use Ashley House. Both the Commissioners of services and all the staff will ensure any changes cause no disruption for clients and it will very much buisness as usual in regards to providing the necessary interventions provided regardless of who wins the contract as the same staff and the same processess that we have all worked hard to provide in Ashley House will be the same but with the improvements that one single overall provider will bring such as one information system, reduced costings and bureaucracy etc.
