"Eye clinic appointment"

About: Devon Access and Referral Team (DART) Torbay Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I needed an appointment at the eye clinic and made this through DART. I found the service excellent and I was given good information about how to get the hospital. They thought of everything.

I think Torbay Hospital car parking charges are too expensive which is a shame. I could afford them but I would guess they are too expensive for some people and there is no free parking anywhere near by.

My suggestion would be to pay for your parking on the way out. So you are issued a ticket on the way in and as you leave hospital you put the ticket in a machine and it tells you how much you need to pay. This means you would only pay for the time you are in the hospital. Also, you would not have to guess how long you are going to be.

This suggestion might be too expensive to implement but I think it would be better for patients.

I went my appointment at the eye clinic and was pleased to be seen quickly by the nurse for an initial eye test then was told to wait in the waiting area for the consultant. I had to wait over an hour which I think was unacceptable. I don’t know why I had to wait and it might have just bee that the consultant was running late.

After I was seen by the consultant everything ran efficiently again.

I found the hospital clean to a high standard although in the past there used to be gel hand wash available. I did not see any on this visit.
