"Ante natal care"

About: Doncaster PCT

(as the patient),

I called my doctor's surgery a week ago to inform them that i had just found I was pregnant. As this is my first pregnancy I was unaware of the procedure and process so naturally asked to make an appointment. I was told rather bluntly that a doctor's appointment is no longer required and instead they would take my contact details and the midwife would contact me.

When I asked for an idea of timescale, I was told that I would hear from the midwife either that day or the next one. However, this simply did not happen so after three days of waiting I contacted the doctor's surgery once more to enquire as to why I hadn't yet been contacted.

The receptionist I encountered was very rude and rather sharpishly in telling me that the midwife services 'had nothing to do with them' and I would need to call Glenthorne instead. She seemed further annoyed with myself when I asked for the contact number for Glenthorne.

I then contacted Glenthorne and was told it would be upto a week before I heard anything as the midwives aren't based there and just 'pop in occassionally to check the book' and that there were still two people in front of me in the book.

It has now been a week and I have still not heard anything which I think is disgusting. I have been given no advice or support and have had to do my own research in order to find out how best to help my unborn child and myself in what I have been led to believe is a very crucial part of the pregnancy.
