I recently took my great granddaughter to A+E at Royal Bolton, but as we arrived after children's A+E closes at 9pm we had to be admitted to adult A+E. On arrival I asked the nurse if there was a special room for children to wait in, but she replied that there wasn't. This meant that I had to wait with my great granddaughter to see a doctor in the general waiting area, which was filled with noise and a few drunks as it was a busy Saturday night. There were several other young children who were in the same situation.
I think that there should be a separate waiting area for children - for vulnerable young children it is traumatic enough having to visit A+E without having to cope with the chaos of adult A+E on a Saturday night, which really is no place for them to be. The care we received was great, but it could have been much improved by having a quiet space suitable for children and their families to wait in.
"Why is there no waiting room for children?"
