What I liked
Specialist services were incredibly helpful and empathic. Felt they cared very much about my son and myself. I was provided with lots of information about what to expect and received unexpected follow up care following the birth of my son. Really can't thank them enough for trying to make a very difficult time bearable for me.
What could be improved
Midwifes on the labour ward were variable. Requests for available support during labour were not acted on despite being agreed prior with specialist services, received rude, abrupt and judgemental care from a midwife who appeared unaware of how my circumstance affected my labour. My labour partner was ignored and treated as though they were bothering the midwife team.
To add insult to injury,I advised I was unhappy with the treatment I had received and my concerns were passed to the Ward Manager by a member of the specialist team. I did not receive any contact from the Maternity Ward regarding my complaint either during my stay nor on returning home.
I would be reluctant to recommend the ward to anyone in a similar circumstance.
"Unnecessarily upsetting"
