What I liked

Brilliant paramedic who monitored and checked patient's pain and condition. Offered sound advice and gave reassurance to patient and relative.

He was better than any care received at A & E.

Ambulance crew good.

Reception wonderful putting up with so much from badly behaved patients in waiting area.

Friendly nurse who fitted canula/took bloods

What could be improved

Time/wait to see doctor for X ray - elderly mother fractured arm wait for over 6and half hour to see doctor with no pain relief offered and little 'comforting' care given. Prior to this had over 2 hour wait for ambulance.

Communication back to relatives/care home regarding managing pain and the break itself how to support what to do for best when patient in pain. ie discharge notes

Also communication regarding patient need for transportation was lacking so meant an even longer wait for fracture clinic appt as patient could have had alternative transport with relative.

Information to patient and relatives/carers as to kind of fracture and best way of coping until appt explanation of type of sling given why no other support recommended etc

By supporting limb in certain way I learned patient may be causing more damage.

Anything else?

If someone is checking BP is it possible that they can communicate with patient and if known or likely that a fracture has occurred check to see how much pain a patient is in whilst they carry out their task?

Even when staff are tired/stressed surely a degree of professionalism and kindness to patient in pain should apply. To tell off someone on a trolley is terrible. To calm reassure and offer help is what is required surely?

Can someone on A & E at least take minute to monitor pain rating with patient to keep an eye on it?
