What I liked

I was treated well from the very start of my pregnancy. I was offered flexible appointments & with the midwives just a phone call away, they were ready to offer advice no matter how trivial I felt it was.

I feel I received all the information I needed to make an informed choice, I would choose the birthing centre every time.

The classes they offered were very informative & true to life (a qualified & experienced person giving useful advice, rather than just by the text book).

When it came to giving birth I had a very quick birth, the Midwives were ready for me straight after I phoned. I was treated with dignity & respect throughout labour & the immediate after care. I had privacy to recover in my room, with a Midwife on call as & when I needed it. I had difficulties after the birth & was supported throughout, I never felt pressured to leave & felt able to leave after 4 days & cope with my new baby.

I was given the option of daily visit at home or at the centre. I felt after a couple of days these weren't needed any more but I still had daily phone calls to see how I was doing until I felt ready for less support.

My Daughter was very well looked after by all, she was cared for when I needed help & her after care was second to none.

I highly recommend the Birthing Centre for labour &/ or after care.

What could be improved

There is nothing I would change in relation to the Birthing Centre. However it is a shame that the Midwives have no control over where you are sent for scans & checks if you need a service they are unable to provide.

I live in Sussex but would have liked the option to have my scans & test at Pembury instead of Eastbourne as it's closer to me. The hospital you are transferred to depends on number of beds available & they will still be with you until the hand over at the hospital.This is how I understand it works, not from personal experience as I wasn't transferred but was still happy with this as an option should complications arise.
