"If this team worked for Carlsberg, they would..."

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford)

What I liked

I was met and admitted in a friendly and professional manner, i was given the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the procedure facing me.( Dermofasciectomy ). I was in the hands of a superb surgeon and their team. I have been treated by the consultant on previous occasions and was able to be confident in their skill, competence and experience. I was awake throughout the operation and particularly liked being told halfway through by the consultant, that everything was going well..this was a particularly positive aspect of the procedure...as was being in communication with the team generally, having nursing staff take the time to sit and chat with me was very human and uplifting.

I was born and bred in Exeter and so all my treatments have been within this hospital (and the previous RD+E!), and it stands to reason that i have had many and various interventions from different departments, not all positive or satisfactory. But this recent episode with Plastics has been my most positive, pleasing and successful contact with your service that i have ever had...THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH..EVERYONE!

What could be improved

When i was ready to go home i had to wait whilst the recovery staff were frantically running around in order to facilitate Antibiotics,a sick note for work and a follow up appointment. I was last on the list and upon completion of my operation, all appropriate staff had gone home.

This was not a major problem, as i was able to get a prescription dispensed at Boots midnight Pharmacy and made an outpatients appointment through Abbey Ward the next day.

This is not a complaint, but merely highlights how the last patient treated on a Friday may have certain needs overlooked.

Anything else?

I want to bring to your attention how grateful i am to the Anaethetist (sorry..poor spelling).

The anaethetist worked alongside the surgeon and was fantastic. Prior to the surgery they spent all the time i needed explaining, discussing... and LISTENING!. this is no mean feat when dealing with, what must be for them, something so repetitive.

The anaesthetist was easy to speak with, most approachable. (This was the case with the consultant too, this is a wonderful trait for such eminent person)

I was completely pain free throughout the operation, after the operation, and i am still pain free...eight days later!..this must be a tribute to the anaesthetist in particular, but to the surgical team generally. Outstanding skill and teamwork!!

Thank You everybody

Please pass on my thanks :0)
