"Medical staff is excellent on all levels..."

About: University College Hospital

What I liked

Doctors and nurses were helpful and polite.

What could be improved

Food.It is all beige,YUK. Carbohydrate with carbohydrate: pasta with chips, seriously.

.Luckily I only had to stay for a short time.BUT! The last meal of the day is at 5:30pm and breakfast is given at 8 am the next day. That is a 14 and a half hours gap, which may serve the convenience of the staff but does nothing for the recovery, the well being or the convenience of the patients. Isn't it the wrong way round? Staff before patients?

I wrote about it to the manager of the catering department,Mr Khaz on the 26th July,so far have not received a reply.

Anything else?

If I may plead to have my belongings returned to me after an operation.I have had the same problem twice,it takes over 6 hours to reunite me with my belongings and six hours only because either my son or a nurse went to retrieve them. I don't know whose job it is to bring back the bag containing all the clothes, handbag etc to the bedside, but they don't seem to be doing their job very well.

Thank you for your compliments about the doctors and nurses

Thank you for your comments regarding the food and the meal times. I apologies that you have not had a response from the catering manager, I will discuss this with him.

The Trust Dietitians are heavily involved in menu review and looking at menu provision which means ensuring that the menu is meeting national standards and is in line with healthy eating principles, which would include a meal that is well balanced and nutritious for the patient group. The patient has the choice of choosing sides with the main meals. We will keep this in mind to ensure that the menu is not overloaded with carbohydrates during our next menu review in January next year. Addressing the issue with colour of meals, we have a photographic menu in place which overall seems to be well balanced in terms of colour on the plate. However there maybe one or two dishes which could do with colour so we will definitely look into this when reviewing the menu.

Regarding existing gap between last meal and breakfast, this has been an ongoing issue which we are trying to address with

I apologise that you have twice experienced a delay in your property being returned to you following your surgery and thank you for your feedback. We will review this process with an aim at reducing the length of time that has taken.
