"Oncology appointments running later"

About: North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust

(as the patient),

I attended the thomas linacre centre to see the consultant oncologist and they were running late. Every appointment I have been to has run late. Some times the delay can be up to two hours. Also. I don't always see the consultant. More often than not I see the registrar.

I also have difficulties with the patient transport service. Each time the ambulance either arrives really early for an appointment or too late and this sometimes means I do not get seen.

Thank you for your comments regarding the outpatient services at Thomas Linacre Centre and I am sorry that your appointments at the oncology clinic have run late at each appointment. I understand your concern about seeing the registrar and not always seeing the consultant. I would like to reassure you that the consultant is usually also present in the clinic and the registrar would be able to speak to him or her should they feel there was something that they needed to discus and ultimately the consultant remains the doctor who is in charge of your care. At your next visit, if you wished to make a specific request to see the consultant rather than the registrar, then the staff would do all they could to arrange this, although I would have to advise that this may not always be possible due to the other patients who are also booked onto the clinic. I shall pass your comments to the Manager for Thomas Linacre Centre and also the Manager in the Surgical Division for their information and I am sure they will find this feedback invaluable.

With regard to your problems with the patient transport service, I am afraid that Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust are not responsible for this service. This is the responsibility of North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust who will, I am sure, respond to your comments regarding their service.

Thanks very much for raising these issues with us and I hope that there will have been some improvement when you next visit the oncology clinic.
