"Efficiency, respect, kindness and immense..."

About: National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery - Queen Square

What I liked

My husband saw a consultant in the Cognitive Disorders clinic in February; he was subsequently admitted as an in-patient for further tests in July 2011. His first outpatient appointment was as well-managed as anything either of us has seen anywhere - he had an extended meeting with the consultant, followed by a series of tests for which everything was fully prepared, with no waiting, no confusion - and a great deal of kindness from everyone, from the consultant to the administrative staff.

His visit to the hospital in July was marked, again, by kindness, respect and gentleness from all the staff - both to him and to me - at what was a rather frightening and stressful time. If we had questions, these were answered; if we asked for information, this was given. Furthermore the ward (Lady Ann Allerton) was clean, quiet and sunny, and the food good.

We both feel extraordinarily fortunate to have found our way to the National Hospital, after a rather bumpy ride with the services in our regional NHS. We don't yet have a clear outcome from the tests, but whatever the result, we know that the investigation has been rigorous and very thorough, There's a sense of care, expertise and seriousness of purpose at this hospital that is profoundly reassuring.

What could be improved

Lavatories for visitors on each floor. Having to trek to the ground floor is a bit of a pain.

Thank you for your comments. I am glad that your over all experience was good and we will consider your comment about the visitors toilets when we are next planning refurbishments.
