"Faultless care with a very successful outcome"

About: Pembury Hospital

What I liked

I was admitted to the antenatel ward due to complications at 35 weeks pregnant. I can't fault the care of the midwives and consultants. I was kept well informed, monitored and reassured regularly and was made to feel like I could ask any question no matter how trivial it might seem. I was consulted about all parts of my care and made to feel like I had a say in what was happening. I stayed on the antenatal ward for 2 1/2 weeks with one or two nights being monitored on the delivery ward. On those nights I had to be rushed through to delivery the midwives on both delivery and antenatal and the on call drs were amazing, I felt like I was absolutely in the right place. When I eventually had my baby via emergency c section at 37 1/2 weeks the care was faultless, a traumatic experience was made so much easier to deal with with the calm and reassuring approach of all of the staff.

The rooms in the antenatal, delivery and post natal wards were lovely, personally I liked the privacy of having my own room. All rooms are en suite which is really handy when you are uncomfortable and not looking or feeling your best. The tv's were a god send for long term patient's like me. The food wasn't amazing but it was ok, good homely food three times a day served by very friendly staff. The room was cleaned regularly and the cleaners were always chatty and polite which was a nice touch when you are stuck in hosp for long periods. Visiting hours were good, partners and siblings from 8.30 to 8.30 and other visitors 3.30pm to 7.30pm.

What could be improved

The only improvement would be to make sure the tv's are working. I moved rooms several times due to broken tv's or remotes. Although I appreciate this is not a huge concern for short term patients, and that we were lucky to have tv's at all!

Anything else?

I did get the impression from the midwives on occasions that they were busy and understaffed, but they never made me fee like I was an inconvenience, and despite.knowing how rushed off their feet they were they were always available and happy to help if I needed it. I must have seen most of the midwives during my stay and I can't fault the care of a single one of them. I would recommend the maternity services at the new pembury hospital and the facilities are amazing.
