What I liked
During the entire time I was in hospital, I could not have had any better treatment or care. Your staff made me so comfortable and gave me tremendous support. I found that no request was too much trouble and there was always somebody available to help us.
I was obviously nervous about having my first child, I didn’t know what labour would be like and how I would cope with it but the two midwives that took care of me in the delivery suite were fantastic, they gave me excellent advice and encouragement throughout my entire labour and did everything to calm my worry and anxiety. We felt that they had kept us informed of my progress at every stage and explained all of our options very clearly giving us, what we felt was, the perfect amount of advice and guidance whilst still giving us a say in what was happening.
The most major difficulty that we faced was struggling to feed, I really wanted to breastfeed and the staff made sure that I would be able to do so. They offered help and support and much needed encouragement at the times I struggled the most. I am sure that without them I would not still be breastfeeding now and would have resorted to formula within the first few days.
I would like to offer my personal thanks to a member of staff who was working night-time shifts whilst I was in. She gave me tremendous help and support through the night when everything seemed to be at it’s worst and most difficult, she definitely gave me the strength to carry on at my most tired and exhausted times.
Anything else?
Luke is currently doing really well, he is feeding well and sleeping well (most of the time) and we owe it all to the great start given to us by all the staff; midwives, nurses and pediatricians on the maternity ward at Wigan Infirmary.
I look forward now without fear or anxiety to having a second child as I feel confident that my stay in hospital will be as good an experience as this was.
"Thank you to the staff for all their help, support..."
