"Frustration at being ignored"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary

What I liked

I and my wife have been in the following departments and we are Highly impressed by them all: Renal, Rheumatology, Orthapedics and South block cardiology, eye clinic, emergency dept, surgical assessment ward, and I can give all these top marks, staff going that extra mile to make your visit to the hospital as pleasant as possible, but I do not like having to use the pharmacy dept.

What could be improved

To be given correct information on waiting time when you first go in and hand the prescription over. Talking to someone who can speak clear english and understand what you are saying and also understand the written word. We know from experience that we can expect to wait because of their workload and people like the consultants need extra time with patients beyond their 10 or 20 minutes, we can understand all this. Maybe the answer is there with the consultant, If he/she gave, whenever possible, the prescriptions that can be filled at the pharmacies on the high street. This would greatly reduce the number of patients needing to fill their presciptions there and help the pharmacists. Ive put down what I think, but I do not expect anything to change, because after all we as a nation seem to be expected to queue.

Anything else?

I can see why the pharmacy is not listed in the list of departments, you are treated with utter contempt by some of the staff. Having waited 40 minutes for a prescription to be filled, I was spoken to by a pharmacist who I could barely understand and who could barely understand me, also they could not read the hand writing on the prescription although we could. They also asked stupid questions, example does my wife really need this prescription, answer the consultant seems to think she wants them because she has had a kidney transplant and these are her immunosuppressants. Anyway this must have upset them because I has to wait another 40 minutes. Its not all boring waiting in the waiting room you learn some interesting things at the expense of others, Like the lady who waited 40+ minutes for her presciption to be told they have the medication but they are out of date tomorrow so she left empty handed. We are also waiting for the rest of ours. If you are unlucky enough to want medication from the pharmacy at Doncaster, take sandwiches and a flask!
