I have experienced a certain treatment program stopping short of sustained recovery in my opinion.
I was referred to this program (Phoenix Futures Glasgow) in 2006. I found the initial 6 months of the program which was residential based fitted my recovery needs at the time very well.
Where it fell short for me personally was the after care. Once I'd left the residential and moved into my own flat the care rapidly decreased and contact was soon lost with the program altogether.
Shortly after this I relapsed, but I want to make this clear - I in no way blame the after care for me relapsing, I just believe that certain things could've been done differently for me personally. Once the first signs of my relapse were known to the program, all contact was cut completely, (which in many ways I understand) but don't necessarily agree with.
After care is a pivotal part of sustained recovery and in my opinion if the after care is lacking the chance of relapse increases.
