"Extremely happy with the way I was treated by..."

About: Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital (Welwyn Garden City)

What I liked

Last Saturday (06 August) I was admitted to Essendon Ward as a day case for surgery. This procedure was originally scheduled for 18 July but was cancelled at the last minute and re-arranged for this coming Saturday 13 August) after extensive effort.

Early last week I received a call from waiting lists, offering me a cancellation, which I was happy to take. The following day I had my pre-op assessment via the telephone and my confirmation letter was waiting for me when I arrived home.

I cannot compliment highly enough the treatment I received over the phone, whilst on the ward and subsequently for my follow up appointment.

The ward sister went out of her way to be helpful, as did the rest of her team and the anaesthetic staff who looked after me.

I would also like to point out that they were not just like this with me, as a member of staff, but treated everyone in the same manner (five other procedures were booked in for that day).

From talking with a member of staff whilst waiting to go home, I understand they had a further 16 procedures booked in for the Sunday, in order to catch up on the backlog caused by the shortage of consultants.

We know that in our ophthalmology team at the QEII, we have a really special group of people who go out of their way to help the patients in their care. We'll make sure that your very kind words are fed back to them because it's always nice to see such appreciative comments.
