"Excellent service but let down by a situation that..."

About: Warrington Hospital

What I liked

My husband was admitted via 999 call to Accident & Emergency, excellent service by Ambulance men, very quick responce with Paramedics arriving 1st. Department was extremely busy all the 5 hours I was there. Mu husband was looked after extremely well via very busy staff but had to wait a long time for Lab results, He was later admitted and transferred to a holding ward as there was no ward beds available at the time. I was very impressed at how the A & E operated under extreme pressure at a very very busy time during the early and late evening.

Well done to the A & E Department Staff and Ambulance Service very impressive.

.

What could be improved

The transfer from A & E to the holding ward until a bed was available on another ward. Tablets that were brought with me to the hospital was not transferred to either ward and had to be collect and found by myself on transfer to the 1st ward.. They were not also transferred to the second ward when a bed was found. The Pharmacist phoned me next day to check what tablets my husband was on and I had to explain that the tablets had been left with the ward nurse in the holding ward. I phoned the holding ward and the Ward Clerk informed me that she would have a look for them she found them and said she would take them over. I then phoned the second ward and spoke to a high member of staff to say that tablets were on the way for my husband and explained the situation, stating that is was now 11.00am and my husband had not had his medication, she did apologise and said she would look into this.

Anything else?

This is not good enough after an excellent service this was let down on the transfer, we are talking about medication here and this should not be left about anywhere. This was a waste of valuable time for the staff who had to get involed to find the medication. Surely this should have been noted on the information given that medication had been left for the patient. After all it had been looked at by various staff and Doctors what medication he was on.

Thank you for taking the time to leave comments on our services and we are pleased that overall the care your husband received was to the standards you should expect. We will look into what happened regards moving the medication which seems to have been an oversight so we can prevent it happening in the future.
