"Dementia Care Review Bryn Hesketh Unit, Colwyn Bay, North Wales"

I was really impressed with my Mum’s annual review at the memory clinic at Bryn Hesketh. Dr Obede’s recommendations from the clinic appointment were comprehensive and thorough. He was very approachable and genuinely interested in what I had to say.

Mum has a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. I was given the opportunity to speak to Dr Obede at length whilst Mum was monitored for behaviour, cognition and activities of daily living.

Mum’s support staff added so much to the review and provided valuable input. The best thing about this was the person centered approach. The main thing they were concerned about was the dignity of Mum and ensuring she remained living at home for as long as possible with the right support.

Bryn Hesketh is a great example of what can be done when communication is joined up. This unit won an Excellence in Dementia Care Award for 2010 from the Queen’s Nursing Institute and the Alzheimer’s Society.
