"Deeply angry with the ambulance crew"

About: Great Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust

(as a relative),

My husband is receiving chemotherapy at our local hospital. The ambulance service comes to collect us and drops us back at home because neither of us drive and it's very difficult for us to travel there and back on our own steam, particularly when my husband is tired from his treatment.

Often, we have been left waiting for quite some time after they were due, but we have been completely patient with this. On the other hand, if for any reason we're not ready to go the minute they arrive, I feel they are sometimes a little hostile with us.

Earlier this week my husband was taken into the hospital for his chemotherapy session, and just as the nurse was finishing the ambulance driver arrived. My husband still had a needle in his arm, and the nurse explained to the driver that she just had to quickly complete the treatment. The driver, rudely and with contempt in his voice said 'Well how long's that going to take?' which I found incredibly inappropriate. My husband is clearly very unwell, and is often worn out at the end of his sessions and you would atleast expect some compassion.

We were then driven back, and the journey should be a fairly short one, but the driver, despite our request, decided to drop two other passengers off first who are in fact half an hours drive the opposite way to our house. We literally drove past our house, and ended up arriving home over 2 hours later. I cannot understand what this driver was thinking but I am absolutely livid.

My husband was so worn out, he needed to get home. It would have taken no time to drop us off. Instead, we were forced to remain in the ambulance for 2 hours after a gruelling session of chemo. I find this appauling and am deeply angry.
