"Art therapy and depression"

About: Stirling Mental Health Resource Centre

(as a service user),

I went to art therapy first when I was being treated at Kildean after suffering from severe depression and have not stopped with the art since. I am now going on to do a degree in fine art. At Kildean there was a room and library with lots of resources and you could try out lots of different things. Unfortunately that is not there any more. After that I went to ArtLink and also to Reachout. The art therapy has been really important to me and my recovery. I have had exhibitions in different places for Reachout and ArtLink.

The art has been the constant thing for me thats kept me going.

Recent changes have made it so that art classes are not as available to everyone, I know people with a physical disability who would like to go. There are more teachers available now.

Thank you for your valuable posting regarding the Art Therapy service

at Kildean. It is good to hear that you found the service helpful.

The Art Therapy service is focused upon those experiencing

acute or severe mental health difficulties, and the hope is that some

will continue to access art as therapy by attending arts and health

projects, such as Artlink Central and Reachout. So it is pleasing

that you were able to do this.

When you refer to recent changes leading to art classes not being available to everyone, I think you are referring to an arts and health project?

Art therapy is still available at Kildean for those requiring Art Therapy.

I would be happy to provide further response should you require it.

I thank you again for taking the time to comment on your experience of Art Therapy
