I was picked up this morning by two very kind ambulance staff that were taking me to have my blood tests at Solihull. My wife followed in her car as she is unable to get me into her car with my wheelchair by herself.
I had my blood tests, there was no wait at all and the nurses were very nice and friendly as always.
After my tests I was parked back at the reception area for my lift back. I was felling quite cold as the only place for wheelchairs to park in the reception of Solihull hospital was in a draft coming from the automatic doors that were mainly open. I wouldn't like to have to wait there in the winter and there didn't seem to be anywhere else that I could go whilst waiting for my ambulance.
My wife went across to the Ambulance Liaison desk to ask how long they would be as I was cold. The officer looked-up where the crew were and said they had just arrived at the hospital. As they had two other people to go and collect the ambulance staff got me a blanket and explained that I would be warmer waiting in here with the blanket than on the vehicle.
I was very happy that they gave me the blanket and having the ambulance desk meant that my wife was able to enquire what the wait was and she felt comfortable knowing that someone was around to ensure my lift arrived. I do like coming to Solihull hospital as everything is under control and there is the area where all the patients can wait together for the ambulances to arrive.
